A modern tale of the search for fortune in the world of West Texas oil rigs. Typically, the landowner’s job is to negotiate and make agreements with landowners who have mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. Essentially, they control the land and secure the lease so they can drill for oil and gas. On the job site, as foremen, they build roads, housing for workers (the men’s camp), oversee the assembly of earthmoving equipment, and the actual drilling of the well, especially in remote areas. They are also known in part as repairmen, problem solvers, and mediators. Featured on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This could easily be rated an 8.5 – 9. If the daughter and ex-wife/mother weren’t so embarrassed and sexualized. They serve no plot purpose, and are simply annoying and offensive to the women of West Texas. I’m from West Texas myself, so I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a way, but it’s terrible. West Texas women are some of the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Now, on top of that, the writing and acting are amazing. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she can shake off her very uncomfortable marital lust. But again, I like Sheridan’s writing (and acting), and it’s a very enjoyable performance for the most part.
