After the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, a.k.a. the Penguin, stages a play to seize control of Gotham’s criminal underworld. Aside from the bat signal in the final shot of the season finale, we never got to see our Robert Pattinson "The Penguin".

The Graham Norton Show features: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024)
The first episode is Matt Reeves' Batman and I think those who haven’t seen the second one will be a little lost. But I watched The Batman a while back and this show did an admirable job of quickly re-acquainting me with where the movie left off, without getting bogged down in a didactic rehash. It recaptures the film’s aesthetic and grim tone nicely, but the show has a lot more sly levity than the movie.
But so far it’s off to a great start
As in The Batman, Colin Farrell does a great job portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mafia "street kid:" uncouth, dirty, mercurial, and quick to violence; but also smart, cunning, and able to read people. This character may have nothing to do with the comic book version, but he’s interesting in his own way. I have my doubts about the show giving Penguin a teenage life; and I don’t know if Penguin’s machinations will be enough to sustain an entire season.
